Torr a Bhuachaille

The walk up Torr a Bhuachaille rewards you with one of the best views of the Tay Valley you'll find without breaking a sweat. It's a proper hill rather than a mountain - manageable for most people, though the final push does get a bit steep. From the summit you're looking down at Dunkeld spread below, the River Tay winding through the valley like something from a landscape painting.

It's an hour or so up, depending on your pace, and works brilliantly as a mid-morning jaunt if you're based at one of the nearby caravan parks. Inver Mill Farm is barely a mile away, so you could easily park there and walk straight into it. The path is well-trodden and marked - no scrambling about with maps.

This suits families with older kids and anyone after a solid walk without needing proper fell boots. The views justify the effort. You won't find crowds up here, which is half the appeal. Time it for late afternoon and you'll have golden light across the valley. Come midweek in shoulder seasons and you might have the summit to yourself.

Worth doing if you're spending a few days in the area. Pair it with a stroll around Dunkeld itself - the cathedral ruins are five minutes from the car park - and you've got yourself a proper day out. The whole thing feels like walking into a postcard of rural Perthshire.
