Tom Meadhoin

Tom Meadhoin rises sharply above Ballachulish, a proper hill rather than a mountain, but one that rewards the effort with views across Loch Leven and deep into Glencoe. The walk itself is straightforward enough - around two hours up and back - and you'll likely have the summit to yourself even during peak season.

What makes this one worthwhile isn't the height but the perspective. From the top, you're looking directly down the loch towards the sea, and on a clear day, you can trace the whole valley that made Glencoe so infamous. The path climbs through birch woodland before breaking out onto open moorland, giving you the sense of real achievement without needing a rope or crampons.

This is one for walkers who want substance without the full commitment of Ben Nevis. Families with teenagers will manage it fine; younger kids might find the ascent a bit relentless. The terrain is rough in places, so decent boots matter. Allow three hours to be safe, and go early if you value solitude.

It fits nicely into a park-based holiday in the area. Invercoe Caravan and Motorhome Park sits just below Glencoe village, barely three miles away, making this an easy half-day excursion. Red Squirrel Campsite is slightly further but equally well-positioned for exploring the wider region. Clear mornings are essential - cloud cover here turns the experience from excellent to disappointing fast.
