Jubilee Park

A proper walk through native woodland and riverside habitat, Jubilee Park sits just outside Ballachulish in the heart of the Highlands. You'll find yourself threading between Scots pine, birch, and alder, with decent chances of spotting red squirrels if you're quiet enough - they're genuinely around here, not just in the tourist brochures. The Coe River runs through it, and on a clear day the views up towards Glen Coe's peaks aren't bad at all.

It's the sort of place that rewards walkers more than casual strollers. Most people spend 45 minutes to an hour here, wandering the trails at their own pace. Free to access, which is always welcome in a part of Scotland where tourist attractions have learned to charge for everything. Families with older kids will get on better than those with toddlers - it's not a playground, and the paths can be muddy.

Timing-wise, early morning is your best bet if wildlife spotting matters to you. The squirrels are less skittish when fewer people are about, and the light through the trees is genuinely lovely then.

Staying at one of the nearby sites like Invercoe or Red Squirrel Campsite puts you within easy reach. It's a sensible add-on if you're spending a few days in the area exploring Glen Coe or heading towards Fort William. Nothing spectacular, but the sort of woodland walk that reminds you why people bother coming to the Highlands in the first place.
