About Tom an Eòrna

The walk up Tom an Eòrna from Callander is a proper leg-burner, but the views across the Stirling valley make it entirely worth the effort. This isn't Ben Nevis - it's a manageable peak that takes most people around two hours to climb, with a clear path that's well-trodden enough to follow even if the weather's turned a bit soft.

You get real 360-degree views from the top. On a clear day, you can see right across to the Trossachs and beyond. The Gaelic name means something like the bull's peak, which feels about right when you're standing on top catching your breath. Families with reasonably fit kids will manage this one; it's steep in sections but nothing technical, and you don't need specialist kit.

Callander itself is your base - a proper little town with cafes and pubs where you can refuel afterwards. The walk starts from nearby trails, and because it's close to town, you could easily bang this out as a morning trip and still have the afternoon free for the parks in the area. Callander Woods and Keltie Bridge are both well-rated and within spitting distance, so you could combine a peak bagging morning with a relaxed afternoon at your holiday park.

Go early if you can. By midday in summer, the car park fills up quick, and you'll share the path with every other walker in central Scotland. Autumn's lovely for this one - the light's better and the midges have buggered off.
