The Meadows

The Meadows in Stirling is essentially a sprawling open space that gives you breathing room when you need it - no crowds, no ticket queues, just grass and sky. It's the kind of place locals use without thinking twice, which often means visitors walk straight past it. The main draw is straightforward: a decent walk across open ground with views towards the Trossachs in the distance, and it's proper flat, so there's no huffing and puffing required. Families with younger kids will appreciate that it's safe for running about. History types might find it less gripping than Stirling Castle, but it works well as a cool-down spot after castle fatigue.

From Callander, which sits just nearby, you can easily slot the Meadows into a morning or afternoon. It takes maybe 45 minutes to an hour if you're having a proper wander, less if you just want to stretch your legs. The real value is that it breaks up a park-based holiday nicely - if you're staying at Callander Woods Holiday Park or Keltie Bridge Caravan Park, it's close enough for a quick visit without needing a long drive. Admission appears to be free, which helps.

Weather matters here. On a grey Scottish day it's a bit bleak. Come on something approaching sunshine and it's genuinely pleasant. Worth the detour? Only if you're already in the area. As a standalone reason to travel to Stirling, you'd be better off elsewhere.
