The tin-streaming works at Tolgus Mill stand as a proper reminder of why Redruth became Cornwall's mining heartland. Built in the 18th century, this restored mill processed tin ore from the surrounding mines, and you can still see the massive water wheel and grinding machinery that would have thundered away all day. It's not a flashy museum - more a case of stepping into a working industrial landscape and imagining the noise and grit of it all.

The machinery tells you far more about Cornish mining than any plaque ever could, and the setting - tucked into a wooded valley - shows you exactly why the mill needed to be where it is.
