Tolborough Tor

The walk up Tolborough Tor near Launceston is a proper slog, but the views from the top make it worth the effort. You're climbing a granite peak that dominates the landscape between Launceston and the moor, and once you crest it, the whole of North Cornwall opens up - moorland stretching to the horizon, farmland rolling away to the south, and on a clear day you can see right across to Bodmin Moor.

It's not a technical climb. The path is well-trodden and straightforward, just steep enough to make your calves complain. The tor itself is properly craggy when you reach the summit - bare granite scattered about, a real sense of standing somewhere ancient and substantial. Allow 45 minutes to an hour depending on fitness and how many times you stop for breath.

Walkers will absolutely get something from this. It's the kind of place where you understand why people have been coming to the high ground for millennia. Families with older kids will manage fine, though younger ones might find the ascent tedious - there's not much at the top except rocks and views, so if they're the type who need attractions, this won't hold their interest for long.

The nearest glamping spots - Ekopod, Trewithen Farm, and Camp De Lank - all sit within striking distance, making this a logical addition to a wider Cornish walking trip. It's the sort of half-morning excursion that justifies a night or two in the area. Free to visit, completely open access.
