Showery Tor

The walk up Showery Tor rewards you with proper 360-degree views across Bodmin Moor - on a clear day, you can see all the way to the coast. It's a granite peak that doesn't look much from the road, but once you're on it, the landscape opens up in every direction. The climb itself is straightforward, maybe twenty minutes from the car park, and the path is well-trodden enough that you won't get lost.

This is a walk for people who like their exercise with a view, rather than a casual stroll. Families with older kids will manage it fine; younger ones might struggle with the steepness of the final push. History buffs won't find much here except the tor itself - it's geology and moorland views rather than archaeological interest.

Launceston sits just a few miles away, making Showery Tor an easy add-on to a longer day exploring the moor. If you're based at one of the nearby glamping spots - Ekopod or Trewithen Farm are close enough for a morning expedition - it's well worth the detour. Allow a solid hour if you want to sit around at the top and actually enjoy the views rather than just ticking it off. Free, no facilities, and that's rather the point. Go on a dry day; wet moorland grass is slippery, and the wind up there can be properly bracing.
