Tofts Hill

The walk up to Tofts Hill from Otley takes you away from the town's bustle and into proper countryside within minutes. It's not a towering peak - more an honest moorland rise that rewards steady legs with decent views across the Wharfe Valley and toward Ilkley Moor beyond.

You'll find a small cairn at the top and the kind of windswept quiet that makes you remember why you came. The approach is straightforward enough for most walkers, though the path can get boggy after rain so decent boots matter. Allow a couple of hours there and back from town, depending on your pace and how long you linger.

This works well as part of a broader exploration of the Otley area rather than a destination in itself. The town has decent cafes for a pre or post-walk coffee, and if you're staying nearby at Maustin Park - just five miles away - it's an easy morning or afternoon sortie. The moorland here feels less manicured than Ilkley Moor proper, which some will prefer and others might find a touch rougher around the edges.

Walkers will get the most from it, particularly those happy with modest distances and modest heights. The views are genuine without being spectacular, and the sense of escape from Otley is real. Worth doing if you're in the area and the weather plays ball. On a grey drizzly day it's merely functional.
