Tintagel Old Post Office

The Old Post Office in Tintagel is a proper medieval hall-house, not a post office at all despite its name. The building dates back to the 1400s and spent a brief spell as a post office in Victorian times - hence the confusion. What you're actually looking at is one of Cornwall's finest examples of domestic architecture from the 15th century, with stone walls, a flagstone floor worn smooth by centuries of footsteps, and low doorways that'll have most adults ducking.

Inside, the National Trust have done a decent job letting it speak for itself. You wander through rooms furnished as they might have been, with period details that feel authentic rather than overdone. The lean-to kitchen with its enormous chimney gives a real sense of how people actually lived back then. It's intimate and manageable - you're not trudging around some vast estate.

History types will find it genuinely interesting, though it's also short enough (allow 45 minutes, tops) that families won't face complaints about boredom. The tight spaces mean young kids need supervision, but there's nothing that'll actively alienate them either.

Tintagel itself is worth a proper explore if you're staying in the area. Rosebud Farm Touring Park sits just 4 miles away and makes a solid base for the north coast. The Old Post Office charges admission (expect a few quid) but parking's straightforward nearby. Visit mid-week in shoulder season if you can - summer gets rammed with Arthurian legend tourists who barely look at the actual building.
