Three Creeks Shore

The shoreline where three streams converge into the North Sea is one of those places that sneaks up on you. It's not dramatic in the way Ben Nevis is dramatic, but there's something proper compelling about standing where the water changes from fresh to salt, watching the currents do their thing against the rocks. You can walk right down to the beach here near Banff, and it's the sort of spot where geologists get excited about geology, but honestly, most visitors just enjoy the raw coastal scenery without needing to understand the hydrology. Families can poke about in rock pools during low tide. Walkers appreciate it as part of a longer coastal route - it's not a destination you'd sit for hours, but it's absolutely worth the twenty-minute detour if you're in the area. The walk down is manageable, though it gets a bit muddy after rain. There's no formal infrastructure, so bring proper shoes. Best visited when the tide's out so you can actually reach the shore properly. If you're staying at Sandend Holidays or Greencraig Pods - both excellent bases for Aberdeenshire - this makes a solid half-hour addition to your coastal wandering. It's free, obviously. The light here in late afternoon is particularly good for photographs, all golden and moody over the water. Nothing fancy, but genuine.
