Thornton Stadium is home to East Fife FC, and if you're camping at one of the caravan parks round Glenrothes - Kingdom or Balbirnie are both close by - it's worth timing a visit to catch a match. The ground sits on the edge of town and has a proper grassroots feel to it, the kind of place where you'll actually see the players arrive.

It's not Hampden, obviously. What you get is authentic Scottish lower-league football: genuine atmosphere, affordable tickets, and the sort of crowd where everyone knows everyone else. On match days the place comes alive. Off-season, there's not much to do unless you're a hardcore fan wanting to poke about the ground, but if East Fife are playing at home, it's a decent afternoon out for families and football enthusiasts alike.

Glenrothes itself isn't a major draw - it's a planned town with all the charm that suggests - but the caravan parks here offer solid bases for exploring Fife proper. You're well-placed for the coast at Kirkcaldy and Dysart, or heading inland towards the Kingdom's quieter corners. Thornton Stadium works best as a bolt-on to a longer stay rather than a destination in itself. Check the fixture list before you book your holiday. If East Fife are away, you're better spending your afternoon elsewhere.
