The Tank

There's a Mark IV tank sitting in Kent that stops you dead in your tracks the first time you see it. It's free to look at from the outside, which is the main draw - you don't need a ticket or anything, just the ability to find it near Ashford.

The practical side: there's no visitor centre or facilities to speak of, so don't expect a café or gift shop. Check the weather. In rain it's just a muddy tank. On a clear day with good light, it's genuinely moving - a reminder of what industrial-scale warfare actually looked like.

If you're camping at one of the parks nearby - Broadhembury or Dunn Street Farm are both close enough for a quick visit - slot this in on a lazy afternoon rather than making a special trip. It works best as part of a wider day out exploring the Kent countryside, not as a standalone destination. The tank's real value is standing next to it and letting the scale of the thing sink in.
