The Sutton Hoo Ship's Company

The Anglo-Saxon burial mounds at Sutton Hoo, just outside Woodbridge, are the real thing - this is where archaeologists uncovered one of Britain's most significant historical finds back in 1939. A ship burial packed with treasures that would eventually end up in the British Museum. Walking the site now, you're standing on what amounts to a 6th-century royal tomb, though the ship itself is long gone.

What you actually get is the landscape: a series of grass-covered mounds rolling across open heathland, plus an on-site museum that explains what was found and why it matters. The big mound - the one they excavated - is unmissable. History buffs will absolutely lose themselves here, reading about Raedwald and early kingship. Families with older kids will manage it fine; younger ones might find it a bit abstract since the treasures themselves aren't here.
