The Skills Loop

The Skills Loop is a walking and cycling route that winds through County Durham's landscape near Bishop Auckland, connecting communities and showcasing what the region does well. It's essentially a proper countryside loop - the kind of thing you'd do on a lazy afternoon if you're staying at one of the caravan parks dotted around the area like Stag Park or Bradley Burn.

You'll get a real sense of the terrain and the local character as you go round. It's not a dramatic fell walk or anything, but it's genuinely useful if you want to stretch your legs without committing to hours of serious hiking. Families with kids who can handle a few miles will manage fine here. The route works equally well for cyclists - no massive technical stuff, just a chance to cover some ground without fighting traffic.
