The Sisters are Andrew Baldwin's sculpture installation near Woodbridge - massive, austere, impossible to ignore. They're positioned along the River Deben, and the best approach is from the water itself, honestly, though you can access them from the surrounding paths.

What you're looking at is Baldwin's meditation on industrial heritage and landscape. The towers are stark, weathered, deliberately rough. They won't make everyone happy - plenty of visitors find them an eyesore, which rather seems to be the point. There's no gift shop, no interpretation board. You turn up, you look, you decide what you think.

Allow twenty minutes to half an hour for a proper look, longer if you want to walk the riverside paths. The site is free to visit, though parking near Woodbridge itself can be tricky during peak season. Ideally come in autumn or early spring when the light cuts through properly and you won't be melting in the marshland humidity.

It's not a day out for young children unless they're already bored by conventional attractions. Works brilliantly for photographers, landscape enthusiasts, anyone interested in contemporary sculpture and what we do with public spaces. From Woodbridge Glamping or Secret Meadows, you're barely ten minutes away - worth combining with a proper walk along the Deben. The sheer weirdness of encountering them pulls you out of the usual Suffolk formula.
