The Sail

Whitley Bay itself has decent beaches and the usual seaside infrastructure, so you could easily make an afternoon of it - gallery, walk along the front, fish and chips afterwards.

The admission situation and opening hours aren't widely publicized, so ring ahead before you go. Worth the effort though.
