About The Saddle
This is a walker's mountain, not a tourist attraction with facilities. Allow a full day from the village of Kyle - you're looking at roughly six hours up and down depending on fitness, and the path is rough in places. Go early. The weather can turn vicious in minutes, even when it looks settled from the car park.
Histories types might appreciate the military connections - this landscape was tracked closely after Culloden - but you'll be too busy managing the terrain to dwell on it. Kids who are confident fell walkers will love the scrambling bits near the top. Anyone else will find it exhausting rather than fun.
It's free to climb, naturally. The nearby Glenshiel Campsite makes a solid base if you're planning a few days in the area - good spot for accessing multiple peaks without relocating. Timing matters: May through September is reliable enough, but October onwards the days get short fast and daylight becomes your real enemy. Winter ascents need proper equipment and experience.
