Creag Mhòr

The walk up Creag Mhòr isn't long, but it's steep enough to earn your views. This Highland peak sits near Kyle on the mainland, and what you get at the summit is proper panoramic stuff - the kind of perspective that makes you understand why people move to Scotland and never leave.

It's a straightforward fell walk rather than a technical climb. Most walkers bag it in a couple of hours round trip, though the final push does get your legs working. The path is reasonably clear and the terrain is typical Highland - rough grass, occasional loose stone, the odd muddy section that catches you out. On a clear day, the views sweep across to Skye and down towards the Sound of Raasay. Less dramatic than Ben Nevis, but that's partly the point - you won't be queuing.

Families with older kids handle this well. Younger ones might find the gradient tedious. Experienced walkers will finish before lunch. Bring decent boots and weather-proof layers - the weather can shift quickly up here, even on supposedly settled days.
