The Pound (Village Pump)

The village pump at The Pound is one of those proper old-school Worcestershire relics that stops you dead in your tracks if you know what you're looking at. It's a working water feature from centuries back, the sort of thing that kept entire villages functioning before mains water arrived and made everyone forget such things ever mattered. You'll find it in the centre of the village, and it's the kind of spot that rewards a five-minute wander rather than a planned expedition.

Histor buffs and anyone interested in rural infrastructure will get a kick out of it. It's not flashy - there's no visitor centre, no interpretive boards telling you what to think. You just see it, square up to it, and either connect with the story or you don't. The nearest town is Ledbury, which sits a short drive away and has considerably more going on if you need to structure a proper day out.

If you're camping at one of the local sites - Mike's Meadow Glamping is the closest at just two miles - The Pound makes for a gentle morning stroll while the kettle's on. Don't expect it to eat up hours of your time. Twenty minutes, tops, including a good look around. It's the sort of thing that slots nicely into a broader Worcestershire ramble rather than a destination in itself. Worth seeing if you're in the area and interested in how ordinary people lived. Skip it if you're after something more obviously memorable.
