The Point Contemporary

The Point Contemporary sits right on Cromer's seafront, housed in a converted Victorian building that's had a proper modern makeover. It's an independent contemporary art gallery - the kind of place where you'll find rotating exhibitions of painting, sculpture, photography and installation work from emerging and established artists. Most shows lean towards the experimental side rather than the traditional seaside gallery fare.

You're looking at an hour or so to walk through properly, longer if you get caught by something that speaks to you. The gallery's compact enough that you won't feel rushed, but substantial enough that it's not over in fifteen minutes. The real draw here is that it's genuinely independent - the kind of space where curators have actual opinions about what deserves wall space, not just what shifts prints.

It works brilliantly as a pit stop if you're based at one of the nearby parks - The Grove Glamping, Seacroft, or Forest Park are all within a couple of miles. Pop in between a beach walk and lunch rather than making it your whole afternoon. Families with younger kids might find it hit or miss depending on the exhibition, but teenagers and anyone interested in contemporary work will get genuine value.

Head in off-season if possible. Summer weekends get heaving with the general Cromer crowd, and it loses some of its intimacy. Winter reveals what the space is really about.
