The MGroup Stadium

Oxford United's home ground sits on the edge of the city, a proper working football stadium that pulls in crowds most weekends during the season. The MGroup Stadium - formerly known as the Kassam - is where you'll catch the U's playing in the Football League, and it's a solid day out if you're timing a visit around a match. The ground itself is modern enough, built in the early 2000s, with decent facilities and an atmosphere that builds when the home fans get going. On non-match days, the place is pretty quiet, so unless there's a game on, you're not missing much by walking past the gates.

Football supporters will obviously get the most from this - time a bank holiday or weekend trip with a fixture and you've got yourself an afternoon's entertainment. Families with older kids who actually care about the sport will find it worthwhile; younger children might struggle with two hours of standing around. The stadium holds around 12,500, so it's intimate enough that you'll actually see what's happening on the pitch, unlike some of the bigger grounds.

Oxford itself is packed with things to do - the colleges, the river, the museums - so a stadium visit works best as part of a longer weekend rather than a standalone trip. If you're staying at Cedar Hollow Oxford or Oxford Glamping, both within a couple of miles, you could easily slot in a match day alongside exploring the city centre. Check the fixture list before you book your accommodation, mind. Timing is everything.
