The Lawns

The Lawns is a proper working nature reserve that rewards the kind of visitor who actually wants to spend time observing rather than just ticking boxes. It's roughly four miles from Botswicky Copse, so easily reached if you're staying at Nordic Glamping nearby. The reserve itself is essentially open grassland with pockets of woodland - the sort of place where you'll see common birds, butterflies in season, and if you're lucky, some of the smaller mammals that thrive in rough ground. There's a network of informal paths running through, nothing dramatic or heavily signposted, which means you need to know what you're looking for. Walkers get genuine value here. The terrain is gentle and the space feels genuinely wild in a way that many managed reserves don't quite manage. Families with patient kids who enjoy spotting wildlife will find plenty to occupy an hour or two, though very young children might struggle with the lack of facilities or obvious attractions. History types won't find much - it's about the land itself rather than what happened on it. I'd allow two hours minimum to make the trip worthwhile, more if you're into proper birdwatching. Go in spring or early summer when the bird activity peaks and the grassland is at its most interesting. Admission appears free, though details are thin on the ground. It works well as a morning outing if you're basing yourself at Nordic Glamping - something outdoorsy before heading back for lunch.
