The Junction

The Junction is Wimborne's sports and leisure hub, housed in a modern facility that punches above its weight for a town of this size. You'll find a proper swimming pool, gym facilities, and indoor sports courts - the sort of place locals actually use rather than somewhere that exists purely for tourists. It's genuinely useful if you're staying at one of the nearby holiday parks like Haven Rockley Park or South Lytchett Manor and the weather turns grim, which in Dorset it does.

The pool is the main draw if you've got kids in tow. It's clean, reasonably warm, and doesn't feel like you're queuing for hours to get in. The gym caters to the standard crowd - cardio machines, free weights, classes - nothing fancy but functional. Courts host badminton, squash, and other indoor activities depending on the day.

Realistically, this isn't a destination in itself. You don't plan a holiday around it. But if you're camped within three miles - and most of the surrounding parks are - it's worth knowing it's there. The staff are helpful about visitor rates and drop-in sessions. Allow an hour or two maximum, depending on what you're doing.

Wimborne itself is pleasant for a wander, and the River Stour runs nearby if you fancy something outdoors. But if you need to blow off steam or the kids need a swim on a rainy Tuesday, The Junction does the job without any fuss.
