The Edge

The Edge rises above Buxton like a proper full stop at the end of the limestone plateau. This isn't a gentle hilltop - it's a dramatic escarpment where the land simply stops and drops away, giving you views that stretch for miles across the Derbyshire peaks in every direction. On a clear day you can see right across to Mam Tor and beyond. The walk up is straightforward enough, taking around 20 minutes from the town itself, and it's free - just park in Buxton and head up on foot.

What makes it worthwhile is the sheer accessibility combined with the payoff. Walkers will appreciate the panoramic vistas without needing a full day expedition, and families with teenagers won't find themselves dragging reluctant kids up a six-hour slog.
