The Crocky Trail

The Crocky Trail is an adventure playground that takes the whole 'getting muddy' thing seriously. The whole setup encourages you to get properly stuck in rather than stand about watching from the sidelines.

This is absolutely the place for families with restless children aged roughly 5 to 14. If your kids want to climb things, jump off things, and wade through mud without you having a heart attack about insurance, they'll be in heaven here. Adults tend to enjoy it too - it's less of a standing-around-bored situation and more of an actual workout if you're daft enough to attempt the course properly.

You'll want to allow a solid two to three hours, depending on how many times they want to repeat the trickier bits and whether they've discovered mud is ace. Wear clothes you genuinely don't mind getting destroyed. The ground gets boggy after rain, which is either brilliant or annoying depending on your tolerance for laundry.

It sits nicely within reach of several caravan parks - Netherwood Touring Site and Birch Bank Farm are practically on the doorstep near Chester, while Little Pig Glamping and Pitch & Canvas are under five miles away. Makes for a solid day trip if you're based at any of them. Worth checking opening hours and admission prices before you go - it's not always open year-round.
