The Chase

The Chase is a proper woodland area just outside Market Rasen, and it's the sort of place where you can actually lose an hour without realizing it. The forest floor is thick with bracken and moss, the trees tower overhead, and there's a genuine sense of being tucked away from the world - which in Lincolnshire is no small thing.

It's woodland walking territory, plain and simple. There are paths threading through the trees, though they're not exactly signposted like a theme park. You're looking at muddy trails, the occasional fallen branch, and the kind of quiet that makes you remember why you came. Families with older kids will manage fine; younger ones might find it a bit samey after a while, and buggies are a non-starter. Most people spend between 90 minutes and two hours here, depending on how many times you stop to listen to the wood pigeons.

The real draw? It's free, it's near Market Rasen, and it works brilliantly as a morning or afternoon slot during a caravan holiday. Several of the nearby parks - North Gulham Glamping, Into the Wild, and Station Farm - are within a short drive, making it an easy add-on when you want to get the kids away from screens. Bring waterproof boots. Seriously. After rain it's boggy enough to test your footing, and the paths can be properly muddy. It's not dramatic or Instagram-worthy, but it does what it says on the tin: a quiet, no-fuss woodland walk.
