Kingerby Wood

Walking into Kingerby Wood feels like stepping into the Lincolnshire countryside proper. The woodland near Market Rasen isn't dramatic or particularly famous, but that's rather the point - it's the sort of place locals know and tourists miss. You get a decent mix of established trees creating proper shade, open sections where light filters through, and enough space to actually stretch your legs without bumping into crowds.

The main appeal here is straightforward: a few hours of easy woodland walking. Bring the dog, bring the kids, or just go alone if you need to think. There are paths through the wood that work for most fitness levels, though it's not a manicured nature trail situation. You need reasonable footwear and shouldn't expect facilities.

It works well as a morning activity if you're staying at one of the nearby parks - North Gulham Glamping is just a couple of miles away, making it perfect if you want something close to base camp. The Lindsey Trail sites are also within striking distance. This is your break from the car, not your reason for the entire holiday.

Go in spring when the undergrowth isn't completely dense, or autumn when the light is better. Midwinter can be a bit grim underfoot. Allow two hours if you're taking your time, less if you're just after a blast round.

Honestly, it won't change your life. But if you're parked nearby and the weather's half decent, you could do far worse than a wander through the trees.
