The Ark

The Ark sits just outside Poole as a proper curiosity - a life-sized replica of Noah's Ark that's part zoo, part adventure park, part mild fever dream. You walk around observing actual animals (nothing exotic, mostly farmyard types) while the whole thing is designed to look like, well, a massive boat. Kids tend to find it entertaining for a couple of hours, though whether it justifies the drive depends entirely on your tolerance for slightly bonkers attractions.

It's the kind of place that works best if you're already in the area rather than making a special trip. The animal encounters are decent enough - you can feed goats and see alpacas - but it's hardly a world-class zoo. The boat structure itself is the main draw, honestly. Families with young children (say, under eight) will get more from it than teenagers who'll clock it as naff within twenty minutes.

The nearest proper accommodation is either South Lytchett Manor or Dorset Glamping, both just a few miles away and rated excellently. If you're based at one of those parks, The Ark makes sense as a rainy-day backup or a quick morning activity before heading elsewhere. Poole itself has better attractions - the quay is genuinely pleasant - so don't build your entire holiday around this one. Worth a go if the weather's poor and the kids need containing, but it's not the reason to book a caravan in Dorset.
