Ancient oak and ash trees tower overhead in this proper slice of Welsh woodland just outside Narberth. Teglyn Wood feels properly wild - the sort of place where you might catch a glimpse of red kites circling above the canopy or hear the drumming of woodpeckers echoing through the trees.

Dog walkers absolutely love it here. The paths wind through dense undergrowth where bluebells carpet the forest floor in spring, though it can get quite muddy after rain so decent boots are essential. Families with young children might find the terrain a bit challenging - there are fallen logs to clamber over and some steep sections that could tire little legs.

Birdwatchers should bring binoculars. The mix of deciduous trees and clearings creates ideal habitat for woodland species, and early morning visits often reward you with the best sightings. Allow at least an hour for a decent walk, though serious ramblers could easily spend half a day exploring.

It makes for a lovely contrast to the more structured activities at places like Folly Farm Holiday Park nearby. The wood feels completely different in each season, so it's well worth repeat visits if you're holidaying in the area for a week.
