Birdwatchers will have their binoculars out within minutes; the wetland habitat pulls in everything from grebes to the occasional osprey if you time it right.

You're looking at a gentle walk rather than a scramble. Bring proper boots if there's been rain - it can get boggy - and allow an hour or so to do it justice without rushing. The light in late afternoon is particularly good for photography, and if you're visiting with kids who are old enough to spot things without needing constant entertainment, they'll enjoy it. Younger children might get restless after thirty minutes.

Free to access, which is always welcome. The reserve sits just outside Aberfeldy, making it an easy morning or late-afternoon slot in a broader Tayside visit. If you're based at Pitilie Pods up the road - which, frankly, is worth the extra money for the five-star rating - this works nicely as a gentle counterpoint to more strenuous walks in the area. Grandtully Station Campsite is also close by if you prefer something more traditional. Worth an hour of your time, particularly if you're into birds or just want some quiet green space without the crowds.
