Beinn Eagagach

Standing at 924 metres, this Munro in the heart of Perthshire offers one of Scotland's more accessible high-level walks. The path from the nearest approach via Glen Lyon winds steadily upward through heather moorland before the final rocky scramble to the summit cairn.

Experienced hill walkers will find this a proper day out - allow six to seven hours for the round trip from Aberfeldy. The views from the top stretch across to Ben Lawers and the Tarmachan Ridge on clear days, making the climb well worth the effort. Less confident scramblers might struggle with the final approach, which requires some basic rock work.

Families with older teenagers who are used to serious walking could manage this, but it's not one for casual ramblers or those afraid of heights. The weather can turn quickly up here, so waterproofs and navigation skills are essential even on seemingly fine days.

After a long day on the hill, the holiday parks around Aberfeldy make a comfortable base. Faskally Woods Holiday Park and Aberfeldy Caravan Park are both within easy reach, while Blair Castle Caravan Park offers more facilities if you're planning several days exploring the area's peaks.
