Walk into Tacklemore Wood near Chippenham and you're into proper Wiltshire woodland - the kind where you can actually hear yourself think. You follow the paths, spot whatever birds and small mammals are about, maybe find a decent spot to sit for twenty minutes with a thermos. Serious hikers might find it a touch limited if they're after a full day's walk, though it pairs well with exploring the wider Wiltshire countryside.

If you're staying at one of the nearby sites - Roe Deer Fields, Plough Lane, or The Moors Campsite are all within a few miles - it's exactly the sort of place to disappear to for an hour or two without planning anything elaborate. Free to access, no fees, no faffing about. Go when it's not been raining for a week, wear decent boots, and don't expect anything more than what's actually here. Sometimes that's enough.
