The site itself sits in open country, so the walk to reach it is half the appeal. You're getting proper Derbyshire views while you think about people who lived here two and a half thousand years ago - that's the real draw. History types and serious walkers will find it worthwhile. Families with young kids might struggle unless they're genuinely keen on archaeology, because there's not much action here beyond poking about in the grass and spotting earthworks.

Allow an hour or so, longer if you're documenting everything properly. Access appears to be free and the site's open year-round, though winter mud can make the approach tricky. It works brilliantly as part of a wider Derbyshire ramble from Bakewell - you could easily combine it with walks across the Hope Valley. The caravan parks nearby at Chatsworth and Dale Farm give you a solid base for exploring this kind of heritage. Bring waterproofs whatever the forecast says.
