Sweet Liberty Belle - Liberty's Felterie

A giant felt statue of Lady Liberty stands watch over the Somerset Levels near Langport, and yes, it's exactly as odd as it sounds. Sweet Liberty Belle is a quirky roadside landmark - a full-size replica of the Statue of Liberty rendered entirely in felt, complete with torch held aloft. It's the sort of thing you stumble across in rural Somerset and can't quite believe is real until you're standing in front of it.

You're not going to spend hours here. This is a ten-minute stop, maybe twenty if you're taking photos from every angle or chatting to whoever's about. The appeal is straightforward: it's unusual, photogenic, and utterly Somerset in its eccentricity. Kids find it funny rather than awe-inspiring, which is fair - it's more of a grin-and-snap situation than a proper attraction.

It works brilliantly as a quirk to tick off while staying at one of the nearby parks. Thorney Lakes is closest at just over two miles away, and Thornhills just beyond that. Both are solid bases for exploring the Levels, and Liberty Belle makes a daft little detour on the way to or from a walk. The Levels themselves are proper walking country - flat, open, and peaceful - so pairing this felt oddity with a proper hike balances things nicely.

Free to view from the roadside, no admission needed. It's the kind of stop that costs nothing but delivers a proper laugh and a decent photo. Worth the detour if you're in the area, but don't reroute your whole trip for it.
