Sutton Heath

The church sits quietly on Sutton Heath, just outside Woodbridge, and it's the sort of place you stumble upon rather than deliberately seek out. There's something rather lovely about that - a small parish church that doesn't demand your attention but rewards it once you're there.

The church works as a natural waypoint if you're exploring the footpaths that lace through this part of Suffolk, and the surrounding terrain is proper pleasant - gentle, wooded, the sort of landscape that rewards a slow amble. Come in late afternoon when the light thins out; the whole place feels more atmospheric. You won't need more than thirty minutes inside, but the walk to and from Woodbridge - which is a cracking market town with decent pubs and restaurants - makes for a proper afternoon out.

If you're based at one of the nearby parks like Woodbridge Glamping or Wantisden Park, it's an easy detour. Free admission, naturally. There's no visitor infrastructure to speak of, so don't expect tea and gift shops - just a functioning church that happens to sit in rather nice countryside.
