The walk up Sullom is straightforward enough, and the views across Lancashire sprawl out properly once you reach the top. It's not a mountain - more a proper hill that rewards a decent leg stretch, especially if you're based at one of the caravan parks dotted around Preston way.

From the summit you can see across to the Pennines on a clear day, which makes the effort worthwhile. The walk itself takes a couple of hours return, depending on your pace and how long you linger at the top. It's popular with locals who know the area well, and you'll likely bump into dog walkers and fell runners, particularly at weekends.

For families, it's manageable if the kids are reasonably confident on their feet - nothing technical, just steady climbing. Walkers will find it a decent addition to a broader expedition around the local hills. History enthusiasts might find the views across Preston and the surrounding industrial heritage landscape more interesting than the summit itself.

If you're staying at Orchard Glamping just 1.5 miles away, or any of the other parks within five miles - Gibsons Barn, Claylands, Moss Wood - it's an obvious afternoon out without needing to drive far. The moorland character makes it feel like proper countryside despite being so close to Preston. Wind can catch you up there, so dress accordingly. Free to walk, obviously. Go midweek if you want it quieter.
