Styperson Hill

The walk up Styperson Hill from Macclesfield is straightforward enough, and the effort pays off with decent views across the Cheshire plain. It's not high - you're looking at around 300 metres of elevation - but it feels proper rural up there, which comes as a surprise when the town sits just below. The summit itself is unremarkable, honestly. No trig point, no shelter, just open moorland and the satisfaction of getting to the top. Walkers will appreciate it as a quick half-day outing, especially if you're staying at Eastwood End Caravan Park nearby. From there it's barely a mile on foot. The path is easy going, muddy in patches after rain but nothing technical. You can do the whole thing in an hour and a bit if you don't hang about. Families with younger children might find it a bit dull once they've reached the summit - there's not much to do up there except turn around and head back down. But if you're into Cheshire walking, it slots into a route nicely between Macclesfield town and the surrounding moorland. Frankly, it's the kind of hill you climb because you're staying nearby and the weather's fine, not because you'd drive an hour out of your way for it. Still, on a clear day the views west towards the Peak District edge are worth the climb.
