Struan Church and Churchyard

The churchyard at Struan sits quietly on the road between Pitlochry and Blair Atholl, easy to miss if you're not looking for it. It's a simple stone church with a graveyard full of weathered markers, the sort of place that rewards a fifteen-minute wander more than a planned visit.

What you get here is genuine rural Perthshire - no gift shop, no interpretation boards, just the church itself and the peace of the surrounding hills. The graves tell stories of families who've lived in these glens for centuries. If you're into local history or genealogy, bring a rubbing pad; the older stones are worn but still readable in places.

Really, this works best as a breather during a longer day exploring the area. Walk it when you're based at one of the nearby caravan parks - Parkdean's Tummel Valley operation is excellent and only twenty minutes away - and you're looking for something low-key between bigger attractions. It's not a destination in itself, and kids will get bored after ten minutes unless they're genuinely interested in old graveyards.

Access appears to be free and open year-round, though there's no formal visitor information. The churchyard itself is accessible from the roadside without fuss. Best visited on a clear day when the views back towards the hills actually shine. Go mid-week if you want to avoid the Pitlochry day-trippers entirely.
