Streetlife Museum

The Streetlife Museum sits in Beverley and does exactly what it says on the tin - it takes you back down memory lane via transport and street life from the 1800s onwards. You're walking through reconstructed Victorian and Edwardian streets, complete with period shopfronts, horse-drawn carriages, and enough nostalgic clutter to make your nan feel right at home. The vintage vehicles are genuinely impressive - everything from old trams to delivery carts to actual working buses you can clamber aboard.

This one works brilliantly for families with younger kids who haven't seen the inside of a proper old-fashioned sweet shop before. Older visitors who remember some of this stuff will probably spend longer reminiscing than the youngsters will exploring. History types will appreciate the detail, though it's more about the atmosphere than deep-dive scholarship.

Allow a solid two hours if you're not rushing, though you could do it in 90 minutes if you're skimming. The layout is quite manageable and doesn't require climbing stairs endlessly, which is something.

If you're camping at Manor Farm just down the road - only five miles away - it's a sensible half-day option when the weather turns dodgy. Spring Valley is six miles out, so equally convenient. Both are cracking spots if you're planning a longer Yorkshire break. Beverley itself is worth an hour wandering around the town centre before or after, so you won't feel shortchanged if the museum turns out lighter than expected.
