Stonehanger Copse

Walk into Stonehanger Copse and you're immediately swallowed by proper woodland - the kind of place where light filters through in dusty shafts and you can actually hear yourself think. It's a forest that doesn't announce itself, sitting quietly near Stockbridge in Hampshire, but once you're in among the trees, it demands your attention.

The paths wind through mixed woodland with a decent mix of oak, beech and conifers. It's the sort of place where you can wander for forty minutes or three hours depending on your mood and energy levels. Dog walkers love it - there's enough space to let them run without worry, and the ground's usually well-drained even after rain. There's nothing manicured about Stonehanger. No visitor centre, no marked trails with colour-coded waypoints. You just need decent shoes, a sense of direction, and the willingness to turn back if you're not sure where you're going. That's part of its charm, frankly.
