Stone Bay, water taxi pick up point, Bewl Water

The water taxi jetty at Stone Bay is your gateway to proper exploration of Bewl Water - Kent's largest reservoir and a genuinely excellent spot for a day out. You'll find the pick-up point on the eastern shore, and from here you can hop on a boat that winds across the water, taking in views of the surrounding woodland that genuinely look different from the water than they do from the footpaths.

It's not a destination in itself, but rather a jumping-off point. The taxi service gets you to places you'd otherwise struggle to reach on foot - walking the entire perimeter is possible but takes hours. The real appeal here is the journey itself. You get a sense of scale that the shoreline never quite delivers, and on a clear day the light bouncing off the water makes it all feel rather meditative.

Families with younger kids will find the boat ride itself the main event - nothing dramatic, just pleasant. For walkers, it's useful infrastructure that opens up different loop routes around the water. History types won't find much here beyond the reservoir's 1970s origins, but the landscape itself has appeal if you're into post-industrial water management turned recreational space.

Wadhurst is the nearest town, a short drive away. Both Hopgarden Glamping and Glassenbury Camping sit within easy reach, making this a solid add-on to a park-based holiday rather than a standalone trip.
