Stob na Boine Druim-fhinn

The ridge walk up Stob na Boine Druim-fhinn isn't everyone's cup of tea, but if you fancy a proper Scottish hill without the crowds of Ben Lomond, this Argyll peak delivers. It's a serious walk rather than a casual stroll - you're looking at roughly two hours up from Cairndow, with that characteristic Scottish terrain: heather, rocky outcrops, and the kind of views that make your legs forget they're knackered.

What makes it worthwhile is the isolation. Unlike the honey-pot hills further north, you'll likely have the ridge to yourself, with Loch Fyne stretching out below and the Arrochar Alps visible on clear days. The summit isn't dramatic - more a wind-swept cairn than a dramatic peak - but the walk itself is the thing: boggy in places, steep in others, properly rewarding for hillwalkers who want to escape the tourist trail.

This isn't a family afternoon outing. You need decent boots, a map, and some hill sense. There's no facilities at the start, no visitor centre, no shortcuts. Which, frankly, is half the appeal. Strong walkers should allow three to four hours for the round trip, depending on fitness and how long you linger at the top.
