Stob Coire Leith

The walk up Stob Coire Leith is properly straightforward compared to its neighbours in the Mamores range, which makes it exactly the sort of peak you'd tackle on a decent Highland morning without needing a full expedition mindset. It's a Munro, just under 900 metres, and the approach from Ballachulish side is fairly direct - you're looking at around three to four hours for most walkers, depending on fitness and how much time you spend pottering about at the summit.

The views from the top are genuine winners. On a clear day you get proper sight lines across to Ben Nevis and down towards Glencoe, though I'll be honest - cloud rolls in fast here, so timing matters. The path itself is well-trodden but nothing technical; boots and decent conditions are all you need.

This one suits walkers who want a real mountain without the slog of something like Buachaille Etive Mòr. Families with older kids will manage it fine, though the younger ones might find it long. Solitude seekers should go midweek - weekends bring plenty of traffic.

Stay at Red Squirrel Campsite just under two miles away and you're perfectly placed for this and the surrounding Mamores. It's close enough that you could knock this off as a day mission and still have evening time to spare. The site itself has proper facilities and a genuine cracking atmosphere. If you're parking up for a few days in the Ballachulish area, this peak works brilliantly as part of a wider Highland walk programme.
