Stiperstones easy access trail

The Stiperstones ridge rises sharp and dramatic from the Shropshire countryside, and the easy access trail means you don't need mountaineer legs to get up there. It's a proper limestone escarpment - all pale stone and windswept views stretching across the Welsh borders. The walk itself is straightforward, well-marked and takes about an hour, though you can easily stretch it longer if you fancy poking about the summits.

What strikes you most is how exposed it feels. There's barely a tree up here, just bare slopes and that stone-studded ridge that looks like it belongs on a Welsh mountain, not in Shropshire. On a clear day you're looking east across the Midlands, west towards Wales. The geology nuts will love it - the whole thing tells a story written in quartzite.

It's ideal for anyone based at one of the nearby campsites - Brow Farm or Green Caravan Park are just a couple of miles away. Families with reasonably capable walkers will manage fine; the trail doesn't demand scrambling or anything technical. Dog walkers get a real kick out of it, and it's the kind of place that feels genuinely wild without requiring serious hiking kit.

I'd go late afternoon when the light softens. The wind can be brutal up there, so check the forecast and bring a proper jacket. It's free, accessible, and won't feel crowded even on decent weekends. Well worth the detour from Shrewsbury if you're after something with a bit of edge.
