Stillington Pond

A proper little pond sitting quietly on the edge of Stillington, just outside Stockton-on-Tees. There's nothing flashy about it - no visitor centre, no gift shop, no car park with facilities. Just water, wildlife, and the sort of place where you can actually hear yourself think.

It's the kind of spot that works brilliantly if you're staying at Donnewell Farm Caravan and Motorhome Club CL nearby and want a gentle walk without committing to a proper hike. Birdwatchers will find it worth a visit, especially early morning when the place is quieter. You might spot mallards, coots, and if you're lucky, some of the smaller wading birds that use the shallows.

The pond itself is modest - don't expect vast vistas or dramatic scenery. What makes it worthwhile is the calm. It's the sort of place where you can sit for twenty minutes and actually unwind, which feels increasingly rare. There's a footpath around it, so you can do a circuit without scrambling through undergrowth.

Easily combined with a caravan stay at Donnewell Farm, and honestly, that's the best way to experience it. Come at dusk when the light softens and the activity picks up. Allow an hour maximum to walk the full circuit. It's free, obviously - there's no one to charge you. Bit of a weather-dependent visit though. On a grey drizzly day, even the most committed pond enthusiast might feel the appeal wearing thin.
