Statue of Seven Acres

Large-scale sculptures scattered across open grassland make this outdoor gallery space near Weymouth something of an oddity. The works here change periodically, but you'll typically find contemporary pieces that play with the landscape rather than fighting against it. Last time I visited, a twisted metal installation caught the wind beautifully while children clambered over what looked like oversized geometric playground equipment.

Art enthusiasts will appreciate the experimental approach, though this isn't your traditional white-walled gallery experience. Families might find it a decent diversion if the kids are getting restless, but don't expect to spend more than an hour here unless you're particularly taken with contemporary sculpture.

The setting works well with a stay at any of the nearby holiday parks - Haven Weymouth Bay and Seaview are both within easy walking distance, while Waterside at Bowleaze Cove is just a short drive. It's the sort of place that works best as part of a longer coastal walk rather than a destination in itself. Worth checking what's currently on display before making the trip, as the quality can be hit and miss depending on which artists are featured.
