Staggeringly Good

The name alone made me curious, so I headed to Staggeringly Good near Hayling Island to see what the fuss was about. It's a proper working brewery where you can watch them actually make the beer - none of that polished corporate nonsense. The space has that raw, industrial feel you'd expect from a functioning operation: tanks, pipes, the smell of hops hanging in the air. They do tastings and sell their own brews direct from the source, which is always cheaper than hunting them down in supermarkets.

Beer enthusiasts will get the most from a visit here, obviously. The staff know their stuff and aren't condescending about it, which counts for plenty. If you're just passing through on holiday from one of the nearby parks - Hayling Island Holiday Park or Kingfisher Caravan Park are within a few miles - it makes a decent afternoon diversion. Not somewhere to spend a whole day, mind you. Expect to allow an hour, maybe ninety minutes if you're the type who asks questions about the fermentation process.

Timing-wise, weekday visits are generally quieter than weekends, which is worth knowing if you prefer a chat without shouting over a crowd. The brewery's close enough to Hayling Island that you could combine it with a coastal walk or fish and chips by the seafront. Check their website before you go for current opening hours and whether they're running tours that day - they sometimes host events that fill up fast.
