The church sits quietly at the heart of Kingsbridge, a medieval structure that rewards a proper look round if you're passing through Devon's South Hams. St Thomas's is the kind of place where you'll spot proper craftsmanship - carved roof bosses, decent stained glass, and the sort of solid stonework that's survived centuries without making a song and dance about it. It's not a showstopper, but that's rather the point. You'll spend twenty minutes inside, maybe thirty if you're interested in the memorial tablets and local history.

Who gets the most from it? Walkers doing circuits around Kingsbridge, really, and anyone with a soft spot for parish churches. The town itself is far more interesting than the church alone, so don't make a special trip unless you're already in the area.

Start Bay Caravan Park, slightly further out at 4.8 miles, puts you closer to the coastal path, so you might skip the church altogether and head straight for the cliffs instead.
