St Thomas Church & The Dove Café

The honey-coloured stone of St Thomas Church catches the light beautifully on a clear afternoon, rising up from the Buckinghamshire countryside just outside Beaconsfield like something from a postcard. It's a proper village church, the kind where you can actually sit down and have a think without feeling rushed, and the real draw here is The Dove Café tucked alongside it. This isn't your typical church tea room - it's genuinely good, run with real care, and the cakes are worth the trip alone if you're staying at Penn Meadow Farm Camping or any of the nearby sites. You'll spend a happy hour here, minimum. The church itself rewards a wander round if you're into local history and old stonework. The pace is refreshingly slow.

This works brilliantly as a morning stop if you're based at one of the camping parks in the area - Penn Meadow Farm is barely a mile away, and even Lights Camera Glamping at 4.5 miles is still a straightforward drive. Families with younger children will appreciate the café more than a prolonged church visit, if we're honest. The setting is lovely for photos, the sort of backdrop that looks effortlessly English without trying too hard. Go early on a weekend if you can, as the café does get busy. Allow a solid hour here, longer if you linger over coffee and conversation. The whole thing feels unrushed and genuine, which is increasingly rare.
